The Clickers: Turning Technologies Audience Response System

Often used in large lecture-based classes, the clickers allow instructors to collect student responses to attendance, participation, and quiz prompts. Information collected through the clickers can be sent to an eLearning grade book or examined in a spreadsheet. TurningPoint incorporates clicker prompts into PowerPoint slides. Students enter responses on clicker pads, purchased individually. Turning Technologies Clicker registration can be accessed through eLearning.
Steps to use clickers in your class:
1. Let the Supply Store know you want to use clickers as soon as possible. This will help the Supply Store keep an adequate supply of clickers on hand to meet the need of students who wish to purchase clickers. Submit your request to the Supply Store online at http://www.universitysupplystore.com/site_faculty.asp or contact Bernadette Chavira-Trull at bchavira@bama.ua.edu.
2. Choose the appropriate clicker software for you and download it from the Faculty resource Center website. You must have the same computer platform (PC or Mac) and version of the software on the computer where you create your presentation and the computer where you give the presentation to your students and collect clicker responses.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- Clicker presentations made on a PC will not work on a Mac and vice versa. You must have the same version of the clicker software on the computers where you create and present your clicker questions.
- Do not download clicker software from the TurningTech website as UA cannot guarantee that your classroom computer will use the same version of the clicker software. PLEASE download your software from the links given on this page. Contact the FRC with questions.

3. Make sure your classroom is equipped for using clickers. This involves having the appropriate clicker software installed on your classroom computer and having a clicker receiver attached to the computer. To determine if your classroom is ready for clicker use, contact the Classroom Resource Center at 348-6011.
4. Your students must register their clickers through your eLearning class so that you have an accurate list of clicker users and so that the clicker software can match student responses with individuals in your eLearning grade book. To add clicker registration to your class, follow the steps given in the tutorials on the FRC site. You can also give your students this tutorial to help them register: http://frc.ua.edu/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/ttstudentguide.pdf.
