WHAT IS ELEARNING?
eLearning is the Learning Management System (LMS) that is the upgrade of WebCT. Courses created in WebCT can be migrated into eLearning. To learn about New and Improved Features in eLearning click here.
WHY IS THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA CHANGING FROM WEBCT TO ELEARNING?
The capacity of the WebCT CE system (the version we have used for several years) cannot be expanded to meet the University of Alabama’s growing storage and usage needs. The WebCT CE system was purchased by Blackboard, which will discontinue supporting WebCT CE in the near future. The eLearning system has the capability to sustain growth and will be supported.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT FACULTY?
LMS course shells are no longer automatically created for every section taught at UA. Faculty need to request that courses be created in eLearning. Contact department secretaries to have eLearning so that course shells will be created. eLearning will be the only LMS available for current courses beginning in Spring 2008. If faculty want to use courses from previous semesters on the WebCT system in eLearning, the courses will need to be copied into eLearning. The FRC can provide help to copy course content from WebCT to eLearning .
HOW CAN FACULTY LEARN MORE ABOUT ELEARNING?
Hands-on workshops are offered by the Faculty Resource Center.
Self-guided tutorials and other eLearning materials are continually being added to the Tutorials page.
Faculty can request access to Blackboard learning modules.
